The corrosion resistance properties of Inconel 600

Feb 07,2025

Excellent Oxidation Resistance:

Inconel 600 demonstrates superior oxidation resistance, allowing it to be used stably in an oxidizing atmosphere below 3000°F (approximately 1650°C).

Resistance to Hydrofluoric Acid:

This alloy can withstand corrosion from hydrofluoric acid and many other acidic chemicals, making it very useful in the chemical and petrochemical industries.

Resistance to Chloride Stress Corrosion Cracking:

Inconel 600 shows good resistance to stress corrosion cracking caused by chlorides, attributed to its high nickel content, which makes it suitable for cool water systems and other chloride-containing environments.

High-Temperature Gas Corrosion Resistance:

The alloy performs well in high-temperature gas environments, such as those found in regenerators and burners.

Resistance to Pitting and Crevice Corrosion:

Inconel 600 exhibits good resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion under many harsh conditions, which makes it suitable for marine environments, chemical processing equipment, etc.

Applications

  • Chemical Equipment: Used in reactors, pressure vessels, and piping systems.
  • Oil and Gas Industry: Utilized in refineries and in oil extraction equipment.
  • Aerospace: Applied in turbine blades and other components exposed to high temperatures and corrosive environments.
  • Power Industry: Used in boilers and heat exchangers.
